GuernseyGuernsey operator Aurigny Air Services has signed for a Dornier 228 NG which is set for delivery by the end of 2015. As well as its scheduled duties, the aircraft is due to perform medical missions.
Aurigny decided last year to replace its ageing Britten-Norman Trislanders, which are reaching the end of their service life after 40 years in operation with three Dornier 228. Two will be new generation models and one a Dornier 228 classic. It opted for the Do228 solution based on the aircraft's flexibility and versatility as well as its high maximum cruise speed of 234 knots. As an interim measure, the company is using two refurbished models, but will be one of the first customers to benefit from RUAG's serial production of the aircraft.
“The customer has ordered the new Do228 in its 19 seater passenger configuration, and is also looking into the aircraft's cargo capabilities as well as its potential for medical services,” states RUAG senior vp Volker Wallrodt. Malcolm Coupar, Aurigny's commercial director, adds: “The German-designed and built Dornier 228 NG offers us the optimum passenger and freight carrying options. Given our commitment to provide a year-round medevac service to the people of Alderney, we're in discussions with RUAG Aviation to ensure this capability is built in. Passenger comfort is important to us and we know the reduced noise of the NG aircraft will be appreciated.”
