London Oxford airport-based rotary operator Capital Air Services has added a brand-new Airbus H145 D3 to its charter fleet, giving greater passenger capability to its current EC135 helicopters.
The H145 D3 with the upgraded five-bladed main rotor system will carry up to nine passengers and has become known for its smooth ride and increased range. Formally known as the BK 117, this type has undergone huge advancement over the years to increase its capabilities to equal, or better, the comfort and performance of the now ageing Sikorsky S76 which was a previous favourite of Capital customers.
Managing director Michael Hampton says: “We are very pleased to have been chosen to operate this new helicopter. We are already aware from the interest shown that it will be very popular with passengers. It has a spacious and quiet cabin and the capability to operate from limited landing sites, allowing greater convenience for our clients.
"To be able to lift off from Battersea Heliport with eight passengers, with an endurance of close on two hours, puts it in a class of its own.”
For major events such as Royal Ascot, Silverstone and Glastonbury, the H145 passenger capability will be a huge draw over other similar sized helicopters.
The company has been managing and chartering a wide range of corporate helicopters for nearly 30 years. Operating under its own AOC, it covers the whole of the UK, Eire and northern Europe and is prominent at major sporting and festival events throughout the year.
