Bombardier unleashes Learjet 60 XR
Bombardier Aerospace states that it hopes to 'redefine' the midsize jet category with the introduction of the Learjet 60 XR business jet, a high performance variant of the LR60.

Bombardier Aerospace states that it hopes to 'redefine' the midsize jet category with the introduction of the Learjet 60 XR business jet, a high performance variant of the LR60.

The Learjet 60 XR has retained its predecessor's fuel-efficiency and high-speed performance whilst being equipped with what Bombardier claims to be one of the most advanced cockpits available on the market today.

It features the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21, an avionics suite that offers pilots instant, intuitive access to critical flight information and features electronic charts as standard equipment.

The addition of an optional second file server unit eliminates the need for paper-based navigation charts, a major step towards a paperless cockpit.

Internal modifications include a stand-up cabin redesigned for style, comfort and functionality, with passenger space for up to nine people.

The cabin also boasts a next-generation cabin electronic system, including ports for entertainment accessories such as laptops, DVD and MP3 players.

Flight testing is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2006, and certification is expected by the first quarter of 2007. The price of a typically-equipped LR60 XR is $12.9 million.
