Global Helicopter Service (GHS), a Germany-based provider of commercial helicopter services for humanitarian aid organisations, government and the oil and gas and mining industries, is the recipient of a contract to supply helicopter passenger and cargo transportation services to the United Nations World Food Programme (UN WFP) in Maiduguri, Nigeria.
This contract award is significant, being a medium lift service utilising the Airbus H225, which is a first for the WFP and a first in Nigeria.
The H225 was positioned to Abuja for the completion of the airworthiness inspection, after which it was moved to Maiduguri awaiting the final Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority review of GHS procedures and quality systems. On arrival in Maiduguri, GHS and the UN Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) team commenced with aircraft and equipment inspections and familiarisation, training for operational scenarios and boarding procedures in preparation for the first on-site tasking and operational flight.
Meanwhile the H225 is flying daily for the UNHAS in Maiduguri.
GHS CEO Dominik Goldfuss says: “We at GHS are thrilled that the UN WFP has given us the opportunity to demonstrate the true value and performance of the H225, and we look forward to impressing it beyond all expectations.”
