Ampaire has demonstrated the endurance capabilities of its hybrid electric EEL demonstrator aircraft through a record endurance flight on 10 December, 2023 in Camarillo, California. Ampaire believes the flight establishes a new record for hybrid electric aircraft endurance with a total time of 12 hours exactly, and with over two hours of fuel and battery reserves remaining.
"Through this groundbreaking mission, Ampaire has shattered the conventional boundaries of electrified flight, underscoring our relentless pursuit of transformative vehicle performance and commercial utility," says CEO Kevin Noertker. "Our unique hybrid electric solutions deliver unparalleled operating economics and unlock endurance and operational flexibility critical to our customer's needs. The indomitable spirit of innovation within the entire Ampaire team propels us forward on this journey toward a sustainable future. It is a testament to our lasting commitment to pioneering excellence."
This remarkable endurance flight serves as the crowning achievement, concluding a year marked by consistently successful missions spanning Canada, Alaska, Arizona and California. The aircraft has demonstrated unwavering performance throughout each journey, solidifying its reliability and adaptability in diverse environments.
The EEL demonstrator aircraft has been pivotal in advancing high-powered electronics, inverters, motors and associated systems. It has served as the backbone for Ampaire's innovative AMP-H570 AMP Drive hybrid electric propulsion unit currently flying in Ampaire’s Eco Caravan, which has achieved a remarkable 50 to 70 per cent reduction in fuel consumption and emissions compared to traditional Pratt & Whitney PT6 turboprop engines.
