Heliamerica, a Bolivian helicopter operator based in the department of St. Cruz, has partnered with The Airbus Foundation and the French Crisis Support Center to support Bolivia's efforts against the serious fires currently affecting the country.
Recently an Airbus A330 test jet transported 38 French firefighters with a series of equipment from Vatry, France, to Bolivia, where they participated in the firefighting that has already devastated over two million hectares of the Bolivian Amazon.
The Airbus Foundation and Heliamerica offered 45 hours of helicopter flights to assess the affected areas. The aircraft also actively fought the fires with the help of Bambi Bucket equipment capable of pouring up to 800 litres of water per trip.
From 3-5 September, two single-engine H125 helicopters operated in the eastern Concepción area, pouring over 500 tons of water. The operation contributed to limit the fires and prevent them from affecting the communities in the region, and more flights are scheduled to take place in the coming days.
