On December 6, oil transportation management firm Transneft became the European launch customer for Bombardier's Global Express XRS jet.

Said Sergei Grigoriev, vp of OJSC AK Transneft: "We are impressed by the superb cabin, outstanding performance and sophistication of the new Global Express XRS.

The aircraft's superior range and comfort are key to meet our regional and intercontinental mission requirements."

The ultra-long range aircraft, which can cruise at speeds of up to Mach 0.88, features improved cabin pressurisation, offering a cabin altitude of 4,500 feet whilst flying at FL450. Its maximum range at Mach 0.85 is 6,150nm.

"The Global Express XRS aircraft's superior cabin size, speed and range combination make it the preferred choice for international operators," said Jahid Fazal-Karim, senior vp of new aircraft sales for Bombardier Business Aircraft.

The delivery of the XRS marked the fifth major milestone for Bombardier's newest flagship aircraft. The first flight of the aeroplane was in January 2005, which was followed by the entry into service of its sister ship, the Global 5000, in April.

In August, Bombardier's Enhanced Vision System (BEVS) was certified for the Global Express by Transport Canada and the FAA. EASA certification followed in September. Another major milestone came on August 26, when the 150th Global aircraft entered service.
