Following a boom in demand for helicopter charter during the pandemic, UK VIP helicopter charter company Apollo Air Services has announced its first southern UK base at Cambridge City airport. As more travellers are turning to helicopter travel for privacy, flexibility, hygiene, and personal space, Apollo has added the base to meet the growing demand and to better serve the south of England and northern Europe.
Apollo has experienced a 40 per cent increase in enquiries year-on-year since lockdown eased, with half of these enquiries coming from first time customers, and last month it became the first helicopter company in the UK to install Aviation Clean Air's air purification system, which is proven to deactivate 99.4 per cent of airborne viruses including COVID-19.
One of its new AW109 aircraft will be located at Cambridge and is ready to charter.
Cambridge City airport is a small regional airport a few minutes from the centre of Cambridge, with fast and convenient links to London and the south and east of the country. It offers an FBO with baggage scanning on entry, so passengers can go from the front door to their flight with the minimum of disruption.
Apollo already has four bases in Carlisle, Leeds, St. Andrews and Cardiff, and with the new addition of Cambridge it will be better placed to meet the growing demand for helicopter travel and service the south of the UK including London, the south coast and European cities such as Paris and Brussels.
Accountable manger and chief pilot Steve Graham says: “We're delighted to launch our new base at Cambridge and expand our offering in the south. We already have a bases in Scotland, Wales and the north of England, and now we can better service the whole of the country and meet the growing demand coming out of London. We are also seeing more enquiries for trips to Paris and northern Europe, as customers want to avoid commercial planes, and now from a distance perspective this is more feasible and cost effective for both us and our clients.”
Airport director Kevan Craske adds: “We're delighted to have Apollo Air Services within our partnership team and look forward to welcoming its customers for many years to come. There has never been a better time to charter flights, and we see this partnership as offering passengers the very best travel experience, whether for business or pleasure.”
