Nomad Technics, the maintenance division of Basel, Switzerland-based Nomad Aviation, has successfully completed a Honeywell JetWave Ka-band installation on a Bombardier Global 6000 in just four weeks.
Nomad Technics performed the installation of Honeywell's JetWave system, which included the hardware with the complete wiring, a new radome, the latest Satcom Direct SDR router and the integration of the Collins cabin electronics system (CES). The complex work is a challenge for any MRO company since a large number of system components have to be installed and connected inside and outside of the pressurised cabin with the cable holes properly sealed against the leakage of air. Normally this job is performed during scheduled maintenance, which eases the access to the aircraft's structure, but in this case Nomad Technics has accomplished the installation outside of the planned maintenance without any prior provisions in a very short time.
The Ka-band system allows passengers to use a high-speed internet connection of up to 15 MBps to hold video conferences, use social media and to stream music or videos while travelling in comfort on short or long global flights.
"The Nomad Technics avionics engineers, mechanics, sheet metal and cabin specialists performed this demanding job in a record time of just four weeks," says director quality and compliance Christian Sacker.
Director, sales Thomas Gierlich adds: "We are very proud of this achievement by our dedicated and highly skilled team and look forward to welcoming other owners and operators at our Basel, Switzerland facility to install the system on their aircraft.”
