Signature TechnicAir completes first active winglet installation
EASA recently lifted restrictions on modified CitationJets fitted with Tamarack's Atlas technology, and Signature TechnicAir's Bournemouth facility has now performed its first active winglet upgrade.

Signature TechnicAir's Bournemouth, UK, facility has completed its first installation of Tamarack Aerospace Group's Atlas Active Winglets for the Cessna CitationJet line on a British registered aircraft. This follows the lifting earlier this month of restrictions put in place by EASA in April on aircraft equipped with the winglets.

Signature TechnicAir director of MRO sales Mark Larsen says: “It's a high-quality kit that is far easier to install than traditional passive winglets because there is no structural reinforcement required in the wing.”

“The Active Winglet technology offers a unique experience and value,” says Tamarack president Jacob Klinginsmith. “Our customers appreciate the fuel efficiency, increased range, ride smoothing, stability and improved performance, as well as ramp appeal.”

Tamarack Active Winglets, he says, are the only aerodynamic technology on the market today that can reduce time to climb and fuel burn while increasing range and aircraft stability, without any structural reinforcement. They are approved worldwide for installation on the Cessna CJ, CJ1, CJ1+, M2, CJ2, CJ2+, CJ3 and CJ3+ business jets.

Signature TechnicAir sales and customer support manager for EMEA John Hamshere adds: “In this installation, the customer took advantage of the upgrade downtime to utilise the Citation service centre specialists at Signature TechnicAir in Bournemouth for a major airframe maintenance input to run alongside the installation.”

“It's a win-win for our European customers to be able to have both services completed at the same time,” says Klinginsmith.

Signature TechnicAir, a BBA Aviation company, is a provider of general aviation aircraft MRO services. It offers a wide range of MRO services including maintenance, inspections, aircraft on ground (AOG) support, interior refurbishment, avionics installation and service, major repairs and modifications. The company is co-located with Signature Flight Support at 17 airports in the US and five sites in the UK, comprising Bournemouth, Farnborough MSU and Manchester, Luton and Biggin Hill line stations.

Tamarack Aerospace Group's Atlas Active Winglet system is comprised of a wing tip extension, a highly tuned winglet, wing loading sensors and a moveable load alleviation surface. The fully autonomous load alleviation system counteracts gust or manoeuvre-induced wing loading. Tamarack’s certified Active Winglets for Cessna CitationJet C525, C525A and C525B types aim to provide greater efficiency without the weight penalty of structural reinforcement required by passive winglets, and typically provide better fuel economy, performance gains and increased asset value. Tamarack has installation and maintenance agreements with 16 service providers around the world.
